Chestnut farmers: from tradition to innovation

The l Àrbol farm, located at the hilly mid-valley area of the Moiola Hills, tells of their history as chestnut farmers for generations: the heart of the business is linked to the traditional care of chestnut forests, and the varietal choice of plants, mainly red garron, has been handed down from their ancestors.

Following the organic method, the chestnuts, after being harvested, are partly dried using the traditional method in the sécou and then processed into flour and confectionery products. The company produces a wide range of naturally gluten-free products, using the innovative recipes created by young Stephen. You can find baked goods such as cookies and tarts, meringues, spreads, and the garron glace line that captures the authentic and refined flavor of the red garron.

The company’s approach is not limited to production, but also embraces the promotion of the culture and history related to chestnut farming. The name of the business comes from the Occitan àrbol and means tree, a term that in our valleys has always indicated the chestnut tree, or the plant that provided subsistence for mountain people.

From being custodians of the beauty of the land, the Àrbol members turned their passion into a job, this thanks in part to the collaboration of young migrants from Festiona’s Sprar project.
